Postal department releases four stamps on Olympic Games

Department of Posts, India has issued a set of four commemorative postage stamps and a souvenir sheet for the London Olympic Games starting from July 27.

Talking to TOI, Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services, Allahabad said "two postage stamps are available in Rs. 5/- denomination and two are of Rs. 20". He added that the printed stamps in the number 4 lacs each have the portrayal of sportsmen engaged in Volleyball, Rowing, Sailing and badminton.

Four lakh souvenir sheets are also issued in 'Wet Offset' printing process by Indian Security Press, Nasik. Yadav also maintained that the information brochure released with postage stamps has a detailed report in respect of London Olympic Games.

The London Olympic commencing on July 27 with the theme slogan 'Inspite a Generation' are a much awaited event for the sports enthusiasts across the globe. The slogan reflects one of London's key Olympic legacy pledges which is 'to inspire a generation of young people to take part in local volunteering, cultural and physical activity.

Director also informed that these stamps are available in philatelic bureau, Allahabad Head Post Office for sale.

There was a craze among philatelist and youth to purchase these stamps at first day of release.
