Online Portal for sale of Banarasi Sarees in association with snapdeal inaugurated at Varanasi


India post will make available online plateform for the weaver to sell Banarasi Saree so that their skills can be appreciated and they can get competitive price for their efforts. A function was organized in New Delhi where the  Minister of Communications  and IT Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad formally inaugurated the online portal of Snapdeal.com. This facility has commenced in the presence of the chief guest of the programme Post Master General of Allahabad Region Col. S F Rizvi at Varanasi Head Post Office in Visheshwarganj. This programme was presided by Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav Director Postal services.


On this auspicious occasion Col. S.F Rizvi PMG Allahabad said that the Department of Posts has started an online portal in association with leading e-commerce group Snapdeal.com to sell Banarasi Sarees online. This is an ambitious scheme of the department of Posts and the foremost aim and intention of the department is to enable the weavers of Varanasi to reach the customers directly and thereby get a competitive price for their products, and also improve its availability in different parts of the country using the network of the India Post. Speed Post service of India post will make sure that it reaches to the customers safely and swiftly. Shri Rizvi has said that under this scheme any weaver or firms can get themselves registered at the Varanasi Head Post Office for online sales.

Mr.  Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Service, Allahabad Region has said that the online sell of world famous Banarasi  sarees will help bring the skills of the weaver at the international level. This will help bring better income to the weavers and also much needed respect. The registered firms/weavers will arrive at a price of their product in association with Snapdeal; they will get their product listed along with the pictures of the product on the website of the snapdeal so that people can shop online from anywhere. This will help in ordering of the products online by the customers both from India and abroad on pre- payment .This will improve the accessibility and availability of Banarasi sarees to every common person and also enhance the reputation of Varanasi.


Senior Superintendent of Post offices Varanasi (East) Division Mr.  Raj Kishore,  welcomed all guests on this occasion. He said that Varanasi is a spiritual and cultural city. This scheme will help give a boost to the sale of Banarasi Sarees and new recognition to the weavers of Varanasi.

On this occasion Supdt. Of Posts West Dn. Mr. H.G. Verma, Sr. Postmaster Varanasi HO Mr.  OP Singh along with other officers and officials of the Department were present to welcome the registered firms weavers along with representatives of Snapdeal.com .
