The advancement of the girl child depends on her education. The future of society lies upon the happiness & prosperity of the girl child. A function was organised at Varanasi Head Post Office in order to spread the scheme among the masses. Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services Allahabad Region was present as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services Allahabad Region said that for the purpose of managing the higher education and marriage expenses of the girl child the Post Office has launched a new scheme called “Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna”. Under this scheme an account can be opened in any Post Office in the name of the girl child whose age group falls between her birth and up to the age of 10 years. A minimum of Rs. 1000/- & maximum 1.50 Lacs can be deposited in any one financial year. The present interest rate payable is 9.10% and there is a provision for income tax rebate as well. This account can be transferred to any Post Office across the country.
Mr. KK Yadav, Director Postal Services told that this facility of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana would be available up to two girl children. But if twin daughters are born after the first daughter then in that case the facility of the scheme would be extended to the third daughter as well. This account would be opened and operated by the parents/guardians of the girl child. The parents/guardians will operate the account up the age of 10 years. The daughters can operate their account after the age of 10 years. Under the scheme the amount shall be deposited up to the 14 years from the date of opening. A penalty of Rs. 50/- is payable in case the minimum amount is not deposited in any financial year.
Sr. Supdt. Of Post Offices Varanasi East Division Shri Raj Kishore said that under this scheme half the amount at credit in the account can be taken out as withdrawal when the girl child reaches the age of 18 years. The account shall mature after 21 years or the date of marriage of the girl child whichever is earlier subject to the condition that the girl attains the age of 18 years. The account shall stand closed on the death of the depositor and amount shall be paid to the guardian along with the interest up to the preceding month in which the account is closed.
Supdt. Varanasi West Dn. Mr. H.G. Verma said that the birth certificate of the girl child, passport size photo of parent/guardian, Id Proof of the depositor and proof of residence are compulsory documents to be submitted at time of opening account. Shri OP Singh , Sr. Postmaster was also present.
During the period, a total of 200 accounts under this Scheme were opened. The passbooks of these accounts were presented by the Director Postal Services Allahabad Region Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav and he wished them happy and prosperous life ahead.
