Postal Department issued Special Cover on ‘Mahashivratri’


 
Postal Department issued Special Cover and cancellation on ‘Mahashivratri’ on 10 March, 2013 in a programme organized at Allahabad Head Post Office. Special cover and cancellations were issued by Prof. A. K. Bakshi, Vice-chancellor of Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Allahabad along with Postmaster General, Allahabad Lt. Col. A. K. Gupta and Director Postal Services, Allahabad Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav.
 
On the occasion in his address Chief Guest Prof. A. K. Bakshi said that in India, since the ancient times we have a rich tradition of spirituality, and Kumbh portrays a small India which assimilates this tradition. While praising the Special Cover issued on Mahashivratri, he said that through this cover the culture of Prayag and Kumbh will spread throughout the country and the world. On the occasion Postmaster General Lt. Col. A. K. Gupta explained the significance of Mahashivratri and told that the festival of Mahashivratri is celebrated on the fourteenth day in ‘Krishna Paksha’ of ‘Falgun’ month of Hindi calendar. As per our ancient scriptures this is the day when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. This festival motivates us to indulge in welfare works of public intrest.
 
Addressing the programme Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services, Allahabad Region said that as the followers of various religions and spiritual beliefs assimilate at Kumbh similarly the nature of Lord Shiva assimilates all paradoxes and gives a message of unity and harmony. Mr. Yadav also said that religion is an integral aspect of life and today there is a need to link it with social concerns.
 
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Assistant Directors Mr. R. N. Yadav. While Mr. Rahmatullah, Senior Superintendent of Post offices, Allahabad welcomed the guests, note of thanks were given by Mr. A. K. Srivastava, Kumbh Meladhikari (Postal). In the programme a number of people including Assistant Director Madhusudan Mishra, Mr. T. B. Singh, Senior Postmaster, Mr. R. N. Yadav, Assistant Superintendent, Inspector Deepak Kumar, Arjit Soni, Rajneesh Srivastava and many officers, employees, Philatelists etc. were present.
