Jodhpur Philatelic Exhibition renews interest in stamps

 Postage Stamps may look like a small piece of paper but there value and importance is much more. In fact Postage Stamp is a tiny ambassador, which travels across countries and teaches them about his country’s civilization, culture and heritage. It is an icon of a country’s people, their belief and philosophy, history, culture, heritage, ambitions and expectations. It is filled with enchanting vitality. These expressions were made by Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services, Rajasthan Western Region, Jodhpur while addressing the two-day Jodhpur Philatelic Exhibition JODHAPEX-2015 on 7 Dec. 2015 in Jodhpur at auditorium of Sohan Lal Manihar Girls Sr. Secondary School.

Director Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav Yadav said that the advanced idea in Philately today is detailed study of Postage Stamps, their meaningful review and conclusions derived from such studies should be explained with regard to the social-cultural- political context of the contemporary world. Further, he said that Writing letters with one’s own hand and sending them after affixing stamps have its own pleasure, which can never be achieved through phone, mail or social media. Letters and Postage Stamps never get old, in spite their value increases. This is the reason that handwritten letters and postage stamps are auctioned millions.

Mrs. Sheuli Berman, Postmaster General said that the need of the hour is to take Philately between the youngsters and children of the country. Explaining about My stamp scheme of department she also urged the people present in the programme to ensure their active participation in this cause.

On this occasion Special cover with pictorial cancellation on state tree of Rajasthan Khejri was also issued. Director Mr. Yadav said that The Desert Tree, as it is also known as, was the lifeline of the people in Western Rajasthan in the earlier times. It provided firewood and even acted as a cash crop. Khejri covers about two-thirds of the total geographical area of the State and and is of immense significance culturally and economically, said Mr. Yadav. This cover will be made available in different Philatelic bureaus of India in Rs. 5/-only. 



In this exhibition the Philatelists of the city showcased various types of Postage Stamps. Thousands of Stamps were displayed in 40 frames, which include a wide range of colourful collection of stamps. Beside of First stamp of India issued after independence ‘Tricolour’, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Indian Freedom Struggle, The Postman and Postal services, Glorious Rajasthan and Jodhpur, Close of heart & Tajmahal, many stamps on Environment, Bio diversity, Space, Girls-empowerment were also displayed.  It included not only stamps issued in India but also included rare postage stamps and postage stationary issued in Foreign Countries.  Other than senior Philatelists of the city, students and children also exhibited their postage stamps collection. It is worthwhile to mention here that such type of exhibition was being organized after 3 years. Earlier Philatelic exhibition in Jodhpur was organized in 2012.



“My Stamps” scheme of the Postal Department was also make available in this programme. There was a lot of enthusiasm among youngsters to see their photograph on stamp. While Children enjoyed Stamp design contest and Letter writing competition apart from beauty of stamps.


On this occasion Sr. Supdt. Of Post Offices PR Kadela, Educationist Harigopal Rathi, President of Marvad Philatelic Association  Jagat Kishore Parihar, Principal Vidyarthi Kalla, Jury members Rajesh Pahadia and RK Bhutda, Sr. Postmaster HR Rathaud, Deputy Supdt. Of Posts Jay Singh, Asst. Supdt. Vinay Khatri, Uday Sheju, Tarun Sharma, Rajendra Bhati and many Philatelists, children from various schools, their parents, teachers and a number of Postal Officials were also present.
