World Radio Day : जब रेडियो सुनने के लिए भी डाक विभाग जारी करता था लाइसेंस

रेडियो (Radio) सिर्फ एक संचार का माध्यम ही नहीं, बल्कि आधुनिक भारत की विकास यात्रा का गवाह भी है। संचार के तमाम साधनों ने भले ही रेडियो की अहमियत को कम कर दिया हो, पर एक दौर में रेडियो सुनने के लिए भी लाइसेंस लेना पड़ता था। 

ब्रिटिश दौर में रेडियो सुनने के लिए डाक विभाग भारतीय तार अधिनियम 1885 के अंतर्गत लाइसेन्स जारी करता था। पासबुक की तरह दिखने वाले रेडियो लाइसेंस बुक पर डाक विभाग द्वारा डाक टिकट लगाया जाता था,जिसकी अवधि एक साल की होती थी। लाइसेंस पर निर्धारित शुल्क का 'आकाशवाणी लाइसेंस टिकट' लगाकर इसे प्रतिवर्ष रिन्यूवल कराया जाता था। 

उस दौर में बिना लाइसेंस के रेडियो कार्यक्रमों को सुनना कानूनी अपराध माना जाता था और आरोपी को वायरलेस टेलीग्राफी एक्ट 1933 के अंतर्गत दंडित किए जाने का भी प्रावधान था। 1980 के बाद रेडियो लाइसेंस का यह नियम खत्म कर दिया गया।

आज आकाशवाणी के सारे चैनलों को मोबाइल फ़ोन में मोबाइल एप ‘न्यूज़ ऑन एयर’ के ज़रिए कहीं भी सुन सकते है। अब विदेश में बैठा व्यक्ति भी अपनी भाषा में इन कार्यक्रमों को सुन सकता है और अपनी संस्कृति से जुड़ा रह सकता है।

Designated in 2011 by the Member States of UNESCO and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012 as a UN International Day, February 13th was established as World Radio Day (WRD). With its origins tracing back to the 1800s, radio encompasses technology, science, communication, and the programming of audio elements, firmly establishing its presence well into its second century.

The theme for World Radio Day 2025 is "Radio and Climate Change". This theme emphasizes radio's role in disseminating crucial information about climate change, amplifying voices advocating for environmental sustainability, and promoting Eco-friendly practices.


Why did UNESCO choose 13 February as World Radio Day?

During the 36th general assembly session, the UNESCO Executive Board requested UNESCO to declare a World Radio Day. February 13 was then accepted as World Radio Day in 2012. The date was chosen because the United Nations Radio was born on February 13, 1946. Radio arrived in India in the early 20th century.
