Within nine months of inauguration by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India Post Payments Bank under the Department of Posts has become a major bank delivering all major schemes of the Government. On the theme of "Apka Bank Apke Dwaar", its access to every village of the country has made it easy for the Government Departments to connect with the common people. Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav, Director Postal Services, Lucknow Head Quarter Region told that due to the reach of the India Post Payments Bank in remote Rural areas, there is a special enthusiasm in the people, which led to 11.31 lakh accounts opened in Uttar Pradesh in the last financial year. Through these accounts, the customers are doing their banking through IPPB and are also getting subsidies in their accounts. Beneficiaries are joining the bank in thousands every day and taking advantage of remote access to the postal department.
Director Postal Services Mr. Krishna Kumar Yadav said that India Post Payments Bank account is being used to link all the public welfare schemes of the Central and State Government with people under Direct Benefit Transfer. In the same sequence, the State Government has issued instructions to use the IPPB account for schemes covered by DBT which are run by the Social Welfare Department,Uttar Pradesh. Instructions have been issued in the letter written to all the District Magistrates by the Social Welfare Department that the payment of Scholarship scheme, Old age Pension scheme, Freedom fighters Pension scheme, Widow Pension scheme, National family benefit scheme, Torture Harassment scheme etc. will also be paid through IPPB account to the eligible beneficiaries. IPPB has a total of 73 branches and 17,664 Access Points in Uttar Pradesh.
Director Mr. KK Yadav said that in addition to this, many DBT schemes of Uttar Pradesh and Central Government that are being paid under Public Financial Management System (PFMS) viz. Gas Cylinder Subsidy, Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana etc. may be obtained in IPPB accounts. Due to the linking with the Central Government's Public Finance Management System, the funds of the subsidy directly reach the beneficiary's account. Just Imagine, an old age, disadvantaged beneficiary of Old age Pension are now transacting in his account through his village Postman, this is a revolutionary change made by the India Post Payments Bank under the Department of Posts. Mr. Yadav added that the Department of Posts has also directed all Postmasters and Postmen to drive the campaign at Village level and make the people aware about this and help them to open their accounts in the payment bank.
