The 35th All India Postal Wrestling Competition was inaugurated by Shri B. Selvakumar, Chief Postmaster General, Uttar Pradesh Circle, on 10th October at Sports Authority of India, Netaji Subhash Regional Centre, Lucknow. As the chief guest in the program, he encouraged all the participants and sports lovers.
At the beginning of the program, teams from various circles did a march past and the Chief Postmaster General hoisted the flag and took the salute. Vedprakash Yadav, captain of the host Uttar Pradesh team, administered the oath to all the teams. A total of 95 participants, including teams from postal circles of 11 states, are participating in this competition, among whom a total of 124 matches will be played at team and individual level till 12th October. Total 59 matches were played on the first day.
Chief Postmaster General Shri B. Selvakumar said that wrestling is one of the oldest sports of India and in ancient India wrestling was known as Malla-Yuddha. Wrestling in its new form is becoming popular not only in the country but also in abroad. The Department of Posts recruits players for various posts to promote various sports including wrestling. Such competitions boost the morale of the employees, motivate them to stay healthy and build their social skills. He congratulated all the players, motivating them to play in the spirit of the game and said that the players should not give up while giving their best performance till the last moment. He also expressed happiness for organizing of All India Postal Wrestling Competition in Uttar Pradesh.
Postmaster General, Varanasi Region, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said in his welcome address that the wrestling completion is creating new dimensions on the basis of sportsmanship, discipline, participation and healthy competition. Sports show the progress and development of any nation along with the development of physical and mental health. The way the Indian players show their sporting talent and crossed the century mark for the first time in terms of medals in Asian Games, is inspiring for all the players and gives a feeling of pride to all of us.
In today's Greco-Roman wrestling competition, Prashant from Odisha in 55 kg. weight category, Anand from Maharashtra in 60 kg. weight category, Sanjay Rai from Uttar Pradesh in 63 kg. weight category, Shivaji from Maharashtra in 67 kg. weight category, Amlesh Yadav from Uttar Pradesh in 72 kg. weigh category, Vikas from Uttar Pradesh in 77 kg. weight category, Jitendra from Haryana in 82 kg. weight category, Sahil from Haryana in 87 kg. weight category, Prateek Pandey from Uttar Pradesh in 97 kg. weight category and Rakesh Kumar from Bihar in 130 kg. weigh category won the Gold medal.

35वीं अखिल भारतीय डाक कुश्ती प्रतियोगिता का 10 अक्टूबर को भारतीय खेल प्राधिकरण, नेताजी सुभाष क्षेत्रीय केंद्र, लखनऊ में उत्तर प्रदेश परिमण्डल के चीफ पोस्टमास्टर जनरल श्री बा॰ सेल्वकुमार ने शुभारम्भ किया। कार्यक्रम में बतौर मुख्य अतिथि उन्होंने सभी प्रतिभागियों और खेल प्रेमियों का उत्साहवर्धन किया। कार्यक्रम के आरम्भ में विभिन्न परिमण्डलों की टीम ने मार्च पास्ट किया और चीफ पोस्टमास्टर जनरल ने ध्वजारोहण कर सलामी ली। मेजबान उत्तर प्रदेश टीम के कप्तान वेदप्रकाश यादव ने सभी टीमों को शपथ दिलाई। इस प्रतियोगिता में 11 प्रदेशों के डाक परिमंडलों की टीमों सहित कुल 95 प्रतिभागी भाग ले रहे हैं, जिनके बीच 12 अक्टूबर तक टीम और वैयक्तिक स्तर पर कुल 124 मैच खेले जायेंगे। प्रथम दिन कुल 59 मैच खेले गए।
चीफ पोस्टमास्टर जनरल श्री बा॰ सेल्वकुमार ने कहा कि कुश्ती भारत के प्राचीन खेलों में से एक है, जहां इसे मल्ल-युद्ध के नाम से जाना जाता था। नए स्वरूप में कुश्ती देश ही नहीं विदेशों में भी लोकप्रिय हो रही है। डाक विभाग कुश्ती सहित विभिन्न खेलों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए विभिन्न पदों पर खिलाड़ियों की भर्ती भी करता है। ऐसी प्रतियोगिताएं कर्मचारियों में उत्साहवर्धन करती हैं, उन्हें स्वस्थ रहने की प्रेरणा देती हैं तथा उनके सामाजिक कौशल का निर्माण करती हैं। उन्होंने सभी खिलाड़ियों को खेल भावना से खेलने हेतु प्रेरित करते हुए शुभकामनाएं दीं और कहा कि खिलाड़ियों को अंतिम समय तक अपना सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन करते हुए हार नहीं माननी चाहिए। उत्तर प्रदेश में अखिल भारतीय डाक कुश्ती प्रतियोगिता के आयोजन पर उन्होंने ख़ुशी भी जताई।
वाराणसी परिक्षेत्र के पोस्टमास्टर जनरल श्री कृष्ण कुमार यादव ने स्वागत संबोधन में कहा कि कुश्ती प्रतियोगिता खेल भावना, अनुशासन, सहभागिता और स्वस्थ प्रतिस्पर्धा के दम पर नए आयाम रच रही है। खेल शारीरिक व मानसिक स्वास्थ्य के विकास के साथ-साथ किसी भी राष्ट्र की प्रगति व विकास को भी दिखाते हैं। एशियाड खेलों में भारतीय खिलाड़ियों ने अपनी खेल प्रतिभा का परचम लहराते हुए पदकों के मामले में जिस तरह पहली बार शतक का आंकड़ा पार किया, वह सभी खिलाडियों के लिए प्रेरणास्पद है और हम सभी को गौरव की अनुभूति देता है।
आज की ग्रीको-रोमन कुश्ती प्रतियोगिता में 55 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में ओडिशा के प्रशांत, 60 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में महाराष्ट्र के आनंद, 63 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में उत्तर प्रदेश के संजय राय, 67 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में महाराष्ट्र के शिवाजी, 72 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में उत्तर प्रदेश के अमलेश यादव, 77 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में उत्तर प्रदेश के विकास, 82किग्रा. भारवर्ग में हरियाणा के जितेंद्र, 87 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में हरियाणा के साहिल, 97 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में उत्तर प्रदेश के प्रतीक पांडेय एवं 130 किग्रा. भारवर्ग में बिहार के राकेश कुमार ने स्वर्ण पदक प्राप्त किया।
