Department of Posts will conduct a campaign to open Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana accounts of girls child under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's ambitious scheme 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' across the country on 9th and 10th February. Under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the National Philatelic Exhibition 'AmritPex' will be organized by the Department of Posts from 11 February to 15 February at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General, Varanasi Region told that to make this occasion memorable, a campaign to open Sukanya Samriddhi Account will be launched on 9th and 10th February in order to empower the girls under 'Amritpex Plus' and in view of the occasion of 75th anniversary of independence, 7.5 lakh girls’ account will be opened in Post Offices across the country. A target has been given to open accounts of about 90 thousand girls child in entire Uttar Pradesh and 9 thousand in Varanasi Region. People can open Sukanya account of their daughters by visiting the nearest Post Offices, while camps will also be organized by the Postal Department at various places.
Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav told that the Sukanya Samriddhi Account can be opened in the post office with only ₹ 250 for girls up to the age of 10 years. It is not only a means of investment, but it is also linked to the bright and prosperous future of the girl child. The interest rate in this scheme is 7.6% and the amount is deposited only for 15 years from the date of opening the account. 50% of the deposited amount may be withdrawn after attaining the age of 18 years of Girl or passes class 10th whichever is earlier. The maturity period of the account is 21 years from the date of opening of the account, however it can also be closed at the time of marriage after the girl attains the age of 18 years. The amount deposited in this scheme will be completely for the girls only, which will be useful in their education, career and marriage. Opening a Sukanya Samriddhi account with ₹1000 per month in her name on the birth of a girl child, only ₹1.80 lac will have to be deposited for 15 years. On maturity of the account at the age of 21 years, the daughter will get ₹5.10 lac including ₹3.30 lac as interest.
Shri Rajan, Senior Supdt. Of Post Offices Varanasi East Division, said that for opening the account, birth certificate of the girl child, proof of address, identity of the guardian and two photographs of the guardian are required. In this account, a maximum amount up to ₹ 1.50 lakh can be invested in a financial year and there is income tax exemption on the amount deposited and the interest earned thereon.
"The objective of this campaign is to open a Sukanya Samriddhi account for every girl child up to 10 years of age for the empowerment of girls in the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Kaal’. The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, which can be opened with only ₹ 250, is not only a means of investment, but it also helps in the bright and prosperous future of girl child. The amount deposited in this will be solely for the girls, which will be useful in their education, career and marriage.
