World Tuberculosis Day: In the eradication of TB disease, India Post is also playing an important role with the Health Department

Department of Posts is also playing an important role in the eradication of TB disease along with the Health Department. The sputum samples of TB patients are rapidly reaching the Health Department's lab through the Postman which has also accelerated the identification of patients and their quick treatment. Apart from this, Rs. 500/- per month is also being paid to all identified and treated tuberculosis patients through DBT in their India Post Payments Bank accounts.

 On Occasion of 'World Tuberculosis Day', Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General Varanasi Region, said that under the joint initiative of the Department of Posts, India and the Department of Medical and Health, Uttar Pradesh, for eliminating tuberculosis from the root, the sputum and other samples of TB patients packed from the Designated Microscopy Centre (DMC) is being sent to the respective CBNAAT (Cartage Based Nucleic Acid Amplification Test) Lab / Culture and DST (Drug Sensitivity Testing) Lab of the district through the post office. Samples from remote community and primary health centers are collected and delivered to the laboratory by Postmen within 24 to 48 hours, so that their purity is maintained. Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that 13,390 samples have been collected and sent to testing lab by the Postmen in Varanasi Region so far. Under Varanasi Region, 21 post offices in Varanasi, 2 in Bhadohi, 8 in Chandauli, 25 in Jaunpur, 24 in Ghazipur and 24 in Ballia district have been authorized for booking.

 It is  worth mentioned here that this pilot project was started in 4 districts of Uttar Pradesh - Lucknow, Chandauli, Agra, and Badaun from July 15, 2019, which was later extended to all districts from May 1, 2020. Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, the then Director Postal Services of Lucknow Headquarters Region, along with State TB Officer Dr. Santosh Gupta, inaugurated this joint initiative in a program organized in the capital Lucknow.



Along with the delivery of sputum of TB patients by the Postal Dept., DBT amount is being sent to IPPB accounts - Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav
