Post Offices have become multi-functional, hi-tech : Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav

Department of Posts is not only associated with letters and money orders, but also the post offices have been made multi-purpose by providing various type of the services under one roof. All the facilities like savings, insurance, Aadhaar, Passport, Common Service Centre, India Post Payments Bank, Kashi Vishwanath Prasad and sale of Gangajal are available in the Post offices. The said statement was expressed by Postmaster General, Varanasi Region Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, as the chief guest during his address at the Mega mela of Postal services organized by Varanasi (East) Postal Division at Sarnath, Varanasi. During this, the Postmaster General also interacted with various Gram Pradhans and citizens.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that even today Post office savings schemes are more popular and people are making safe investments in them from generation to generation. So far 28.70 lakh savings accounts, 5.21 lakh IPPB accounts and 2.55 lakh Sukanya Samriddhi accounts have been opened in Varanasi region till now. 686 villages have been made Sampoorna Sukanya Samriddhi Gram. Underlining the leading role of the Postal department as a valuable tool for the safe future of girls and women empowerment, he said that for their bright future, they need to be strengthened financially and socially from now on. To make it, 'Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana' launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi under 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' is playing an important role.

Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav further told that Postman and Gramin Dak Sevaks are working as a mobile bank through India Post Payments Bank. Now no one needs to go to the bank or ATM to withdraw the DBT amount receiving in their bank accounts or amount lying in their bank accounts, but all beneficiaries or bank account holders can withdraw money from their Aadhar linked bank account through postman sitting at home. The benefit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana can also be availed through postman. Aadhaar is necessary to take advantage of various schemes of the government, so now the mobile number linked to Aadhaar can also be updated in Aadhaar through the postman at door steps. Shri Yadav expressed that common people do not have to wander here and there for various services and all services are made available in Post offices under one roof. For this now 73 services of central and different state governments are being catered through Common Service Center established in Post offices.

Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Varanasi East Division, Mr. Rajan said that the Department of Posts is taking initiative to make people aware about various postal schemes. More than 2,000 post office savings bank accounts and ' Sukanya Samriddhi accounts of 500 girl Childs were opened during the Daak mela. A maximum of 1.5 lakh rupees can be deposited in a financial year in the Sukanya Samriddhi account to be opened in just Rs 250. Up to 50% of the deposit amount can also be withdrawn after the girl child attains the age of 18 years or has passed class 10th. The maturity period of the account is 21 years from the date of account opening, however it can be closed at the time of marriage after the girl child attains the age of 18 years.
